Sakata [b. 1941] worked under Richard Avedon in New York beginning in 1966, and Avedon's influence can be seen here. In 1989 he had a one-man show, "Oriental Faces", at the Touko Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo.
Toshiharu Ito's introductory essay and the photo captions are printed in Japanese and English. Fine .
